Active Listening
This session will cover the listening skills practised by Switchboard volunteers over its 52-year history, and how to apply them in a range of situations, especially in being an effective ally, and supporting friends and colleagues.
The session will cover Switchboard’s ‘Encounters’ acronym for effective listening, as well as top tips for de-escalating through ‘Challenging with a Small C’, and explore what being an active listener and ally means.
Challenging Bias
This session takes the learnings from the session on active listening, and delves into how to have some of the more difficult conversations you might need to in your personal and professional life.
The session helps you identify the various forms of bias that can show up in the workplace, and how you might spot, understand and address them.
Managing Diverse Teams
Building on the previous two sessions, this talk focuses on the different types of identities and experiences you might have in your staff team, and invites you to think about how to best support all colleagues.
The session looks at practical tips, as well as a roadmap for thinking about your own successes and opportunities.
Supporting Coming Out
This session takes the knowledge from Switchboard’s 50+ year history to look at why people come out, what challenges they can face, and how to best support people who are coming out themselves.
